David Haskell's Blog: Daily Habits vs Writing Focus

A few months ago I was going through an existential crisis of sorts, wondering whether or not I had enough creativity to be successful in the world of entertainment, whether it's with music, writing or whatever. I also have struggled with the issue of?procrastination?and as you can see I had a lot to say on the subject lol.

I feel as though the question of creativity has been answered, having gotten myself into the daily habit of doing something creative I have been able to get some stuff out of my head and on paper so to speak (on monitor?), and I've felt pretty good about it although most of my work is still in progress. But now I've hit a different sort of snag, and that is the creative ideas are flowing but I'm having trouble sticking to one for the long haul. Instead, I'm getting all kinds of ideas and I'll get a burst of energy and start writing or composing or whatever, and that will last a day or two, and then it sort of loses momentum and I get a dry spell and then some other idea comes up. Which is nice and all, but at some point I've got to get beyond the rough draft stage of so much stuff and onto the serious business of getting it done.

That's part of the reason I did some groundwork on the Preservation Project. It's a book I've thought of writing many time before and, in fact, I had the outlines already done from a long time ago which I managed to dig up and start working from. I love the idea for the story, I think it will be an entertaining read, and I decided that out of all my project ideas going on right now that's the one that sort of keeps coming back time and again. So I sort of made a promise to myself, in doing that trailer?and then putting it out there for all to see, to get it done and in print (well, e-print anyway lol) sometime soon. And by that I mean within 12 months at the very most, possibly a lot sooner. When it's done, it'll be done, I don't want to put a hard deadline on it, but 'soon' will keep me on track I think and with what I've already got finished it's not something that should take me forever to complete.

Thanks very much for reading my blog. If you like it, please share it using the icons below. ?I also hope you'll consider following my progress here by signing up, because I'm planning to offer frequent updates. Coming up, I'll be adding a third installment to "What's this blog about?" (for a refresher, here's part 1?and?part 2), a hint of which is now located right up top under "David Haskell's Blog", a travel related article on Japan and life here almost a year since the big 9.0 hit us, along with a topic on creative writing. Until then, have a great Friday and a fun weekend.
