If you're a Facebook user with a tendency to make typos or regrettable comments, I've got good news: The social network is now allowing us to edit our Facebook comments as much as we want.

According to a Facebook spokesperson, "you'll now be able to edit your comments anytime after you post them." She adds that this is "particularly useful if you've made a typo and already have some likes and don't want to delete your comment entirely."

In the past, Facebook allowed folks to edit their comments for a couple of seconds after they're posted?? and only if no one has replied to them. This meant that you had to either catch your mistakes really?quickly or just plain completely delete your comment.

But with the new editing feature, you can click the "x" button on a comment at any time and have the option to edit it.

Once you've edited your comment, it will have a little "Edited" button next to the timestamp, to alert other folks of the change.?

And that's not all other folks will see.?Clicking on that new button will allow you?? and other users ? to view the edited comments history. This means that?your shame won't be hidden entirely. But it also prevents you from making sneaky changes in an attempt to make people look bad, like changing "I like ice cream" to "I kick kittens" after 100 people have liked your comment.

Ah, well. It's still a decent trade-off for the ability to edit out typos at any time.

Like any new Facebook feature, the?new comment editing ability seems to be rolling out gradually, so don't fret if you're not seeing it yet. You soon will.

Trout Unlimited, the nation?s foremost organization for restoring fisheries, is supplying volunteers and donating 20 fishing poles and bait for children to use at the Soldiers Home fishing ponds stocked with fish. Catch-and-release fishing will occur from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

In addition to fishing we will have organized activities including soccer, touch football, kickball and tug of war. Thanks to Park View Kids Zone for helping supply equipment. Why go to the Mall when you can watch the fireworks from some of the high ground right here at the Soldiers Home? Fireworks begin shortly after 9 p.m.

Egyptians Rally Against Military Power Grab Ahead of Election Results Announcement

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, the country's leading Islamist party, claims its candidate won Sunday's presidential election and plans to protest a move by the country's military rulers to strip the presidency of much of its power, according to the group's website.

The official results of the election will be announced Thursday, but have been overshadowed by the generals' move, which has been called both a military power grab and a sign of anxiety over political Islam. In response, the Muslim Brotherhood and activists are planning a rally reminiscent of the Arab Spring protests that toppled President Hosni Mubarak last year.

Like those protests, Tuesday's rally in Cairo's Tahrir Square will call for a change in the country's leadership. But this time the hostility will be aimed at the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces which issued a controversial constitutional declaration hours before the polls closed. The declaration gave the SCAF legislative power until the recently-dissolved parliament resumes control over the drafting of a new constitution, and authority to manage the military without civilian oversight, Reuters reports.

In a statement on the constitutional declaration, the Muslim Brotherhood said there was one word to describe the Military Council's move: "coup."

"Ultimately, this announcement amounts to a total coup d'etat against constitutional, popular, and revolutionary legitimacy," the statement reads. "For all this, we will participate vigourously with all the Egyptian people in expressing unequivocal rejection of all the foregoing by joining the million-man marches and protests in Tahrir Square."

The U.S. ?which provides more than $1 billion in military aid to Egypt?now finds itself on the same side as the Muslim Brotherhood, which it had for years accused of terrorist activity.

"We are deeply concerned about the new amendments to the consitutional declaration, including the timing of their announcement as polls were closing," said Pentagon Press Secretary George Little in a statement to reporters Monday. "We have, and will continue, to urge the SCAF to reliquish power to civilian-elected authorities and to respect the universal rights of the Egyptian people and the rule of law."

Microsoft's Surface tablet no threat to Apple's iPad

Computerworld - Apple has little to worry about from Microsoft's tradition-breaking move to sell its own tablets, analysts said today.

Microsoft's new Surface, a line of 10.6-in. tablets that will run the company's impending operating systems -- the tablet-centric Windows RT and the more traditional Windows 8 -- pose little threat to Apple's iPad market dominance, those experts said.

According to IDC, the iPad will account for 63% of all tablets shipped in 2012.

"I don't think Surface is a big hurt on the iPad," said Ezra Gottheil of Technology Business Research. "[The Surface] will have some legs in the enterprise -- it will be a lot easier of a sell there with compatibility through Office, it's probably more manageable, and it comes from a vendor that IT is more comfortable with. But it won't be a major impact on the iPad."

Others agreed.

"Microsoft's tablet-related products may have a place in certain parts of the enterprise world that require Windows-based solutions [but] we found little in yesterday's presentation that would convince us that a consumer would prefer Surface over an iPad," said Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets, in a note to clients today.

Yesterday, Microsoft stepped over a line it had never crossed in its 37-year history: It said it had designed, and would sell, what is essentially a computer, in the process eliminating the middleman -- OEM partners like Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo and others -- from the Windows food chain.

Radical though that was -- one analyst yesterday said it was the boldest move he'd ever seen by a technology company -- it won't be enough to unseat Apple from the top tablet spot.

"While we believe Surface will appeal to users looking for a Windows tablet capable of running Windows-based productivity software, we do not see it altering competitive dynamics in the tablet market," said Brian Marshall, an analyst with ISI Group, in an email Monday.

The Surface will probably be too pricy; starts out behind the iPad in critical component specs, especially the display; and most importantly, is a copy-cat that may lack sufficiently-compelling reasons for bypassing the original.

"This absolutely begs the question," said Gottheil. "If the Surface is going head-to-head with the iPad, why not just buy an iPad?"

Much depends on what prices Microsoft puts on the Surface, something the company declined to disclose yesterday. Instead, it made vague references to competitive pricing, which many suspect hinted at numbers too high to entice customers, consumers especially, from opting for an iPad, a true notebook or a cheaper Android tablet.

Monday, Microsoft said the consumer-oriented Windows RT Surface would be "competitive with a comparable ARM tablet," while the heavier Windows 8 Pro model would be priced similarly to "an Intel ultrabook-class PC."

But that leaves enough room for a broad price range.

Microsoft on Monday unveiled a product aimed directly at Apple's iPad, releasing a tablet called Surface. The new tablet will be available in two versions: One with the Windows 8 Pro operating system and one based on Windows RT.

The evidence against Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma includes considerably more than a page of handwritten notes.

During Monday afternoon?s appeal hearing in the bounty case, NFL outside counsel Mary Jo White explained to the players and lawyers present (including at least one lawyer from the office of linebacker Jonathan Vilma?s counsel, Peter Ginsberg) that three persons corroborated the claim that Vilma offered $10,000 to any member of the Saints defense who knocked Vikings quarterback Brett Favre out of the 2009 NFC title game.

?Mr. [Gregg] Williams and Mr. [Mike] Ornstein and another member of the Saints defensive coaching staff, all of whom were present at the meeting, all stated to NFL investigators that Mr. Vilma pledged $10,000 to any player who knocked Brett Favre out of the next week?s NFC championship game against the Minnesota Vikings,? White said according to the official transcript, a copy of which PFT has obtained.? ?All three witnesses stated that the amount of this bounty was $10,000.?

Vilma?s offer allegedly sparked a tidal wave of similar gestures.

?According to one of the witnesses present at the meeting, the bounty offered by Mr. Vilma prior to the NFC championship game inspired additional players to pledge money for injury-producing hits or potentially injury-producing hits against opposing players or for other types of plays during the game,? White said.? ?Mr. Vitt told NFL investigators that this meeting, quote, got out of hand, unquote. NFL investigators were informed that a member of the defensive coaching staff kept track of the various pledges made by players at this meeting.?

White also said that an unnamed witness provided the following quote regarding Vilma?s behavior before the prior week?s game:? ??In the NFC divisional playoffs, the Saints faced the Arizona Cardinals. During a meeting of the defense the night before the game in January 2010, Jonathan Vilma, a Saints defensive captain, asked for permission to address the team, which was granted,. Mr. Vilma, in the course of giving a motivational speech to the team, stated, while raising his hands, each of which held stacks of bills, that he had two five stacks, which I understood to mean $10,000, for anyone who knocked Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner out of the game.??? White said that the quote was independently confirmed by Mike Ornstein.

The problem continues to be that the NFL chose not to make Williams or Ornstein or the unnamed witness available to testify on Monday, and none of the three persons ever have addressed those claims, in any setting.? And so we?re all left to take the NFL?s word for it.

The NFL?s word may be the truth.? But when the three persons are all still, you know, alive, it would be nice to hear it from their mouths before completely believing it.

And that perhaps is and will continue to be the biggest question, which may never be answered.? What will an assistant coach who may have been (and likely still is) motivated by saving his career, a twice-convicted felon who still hopes to have access to NFL events (and inexplicably still does), and an unnamed person who may be a disgruntled former Saints employee say, if ever asked about these matters, especially if asked about them under oath?

3M Mobile Projector MP410

The 3M Mobile Projector MP410 ($599 direct) is one more entry in a category of projectors that are effectively variations on a theme. Some, like the MP410, are palmtops with 300-lumen ratings. Others, like the Optoma ML500 ($650 street, 3.5 stars) and are a little larger and brighter, with 500-lumen ratings. However, they're all built around LED light sources paired with DLP chips, and they share similar features, including a claimed WXGA (1280 by 800) native resolution. The MP410 is a little pricey for its brightness rating, but it is also a particularly well polished representative of the breed, making it Editors' Choice.

The big advantage for the 300-lumen models in this group, including the MP410 and the Dell M110 ($499 direct, 3.5 stars), is their small size. The 500-lumen models typically weigh between two and three pounds. The MP410, in contrast, weighs just 0.8 pounds by itself, or 1.8 pounds with its power block and cable.

Keep in mind too that perception of brightness is logarithmic, so although 500 lumens is brighter than 300 lumens to the human eye, it isn't anywhere near 167 percent as bright. That helps makes the savings in weight for a 300-lumen projector a more than reasonable tradeoff for the lower brightness.

Basics
One of the MP410's most attractive features is its portability. It measures just 1.7 by 4.2 by 4.2 inches (HWD), and 3M ships it with a soft case, just large enough to hold the projector, power block, and all the cables you need. There's also enough room left over for the optional remote ($21.95 direct) and optional dongle ($69.95 direct) that will let you connect by WiFi. According to 3M there are various free apps available that will let you connect and show images from Windows PCs, Macs, and both iOS and Android devices.

For even better portability, you can leave your computer or video source at home and let the MP410 read files from the internal 1GB internal memory, from USB memory keys, or from microSD cards. In addition to image files (JPG and BMP), it can read video (MOV, MP4, AVI, MKV, DIVX, WMV, and WMV3) and audio files (MP1, MP2, MP3, and WMA) as well.

Setup is standard, with the USB A port and microSD card slot on the back of the projector along with an HDMI port, a proprietary connector for the supplied VGA adapter, and a miniplug jack for audio input. Note too that if you have a USB A to USB A cable, you can also use the USB port to connect to a computer, both for sending data images and for copying files to the internal memory as well as for managing those files. Also on the back is a Kensington Lock slot, so you can leave the projector sitting in a conference room without worrying about it disappearing.

One last feature worth highlighting is that, as with any projector with an LED light source, the LEDs are meant to last the life of the projector, with a 20,000-hour rated lifetime in this case. Not having to replace the light source helps keep the total cost of ownership down.

Brightness and Image Quality
With a 300-lumen rating, the MP410 obviously isn't as bright as a typical lamp-based projector with 2,000 to 3,000 lumens, but it's more than bright enough to be useful. In my tests, I found the MP410 comfortably bright enough for a 50-inch wide image (59 inches diagonally at 1,280 by 800) or even a little larger in a darkened room. It was even usable at that size with moderate ambient light.

Data image quality is more than acceptable, but well short of excellent. On our standard suite of DisplayMate tests, colors were fully saturated and vibrant, and color balance was excellent, with neutral grays over the full range from white to black.

Unfortunately I also saw the same sort of scaling artifacts at the claimed native resolution (in the form of added patterns) as I saw with the Optoma ML500, Dell M110, and other, similar projectors in this category. As I discussed in detail in the ML500 review, this simply shouldn't happen.

The good news is that the artifacts won't be an issue for most people, because they show up only on images with closely spaced patterns of dots or lines over a large area. The better news is that with the MP410, the scaling doesn't affect text readability, which is usually the more important problem with scaling. In my tests, black text on a white background was crisp and easily readable down to 6.8 point size.

Other Issues
The MP410's video image quality is well short of the best I've seen from a data projector, much less a home theater projector, but is at least usable, which is more than some data projectors can manage. It also helps that the MP410 shows fewer rainbow artifacts than most DLP projectors.

Rainbow artifacts, with bright areas breaking up into red-green-blue rainbows are a potential issue with any single-chip DLP projector, with some projectors showing them more easily than others. As with most DLP projectors, the MP410 shows them more often with video than with data. Even with video however, they show so infrequently that even those who are sensitive to the effect aren't likely to find them bothersome.

One other feature that demands mention is the audio. As with most small projectors, the MP410's audio is severely underpowered. If you need sound at a reasonable volume, plan on using a separate sound system.

As should be obvious, the 3M Mobile Projector MP410 offers a more than attractive balance of brightness, size, and features, including the ability to read files from various memory sources. If you're on a tight budget, you may be better off with the Dell M110, and if you need higher brightness, you may prefer a 500-lumen projector with similar features?like the Optoma ML500. However, the 3M Mobile Projector MP410 earns lots of points for having less of a rainbow effect than most of its 300- and 500-lumen competition, and it offers somewhat better data image quality, with more readable text. That's enough to make it well worth considering, worth the high price for the brightness level, and also an Editors' Choice.

Internet safety education, whether from the media or parents, has made teenagers paranoid about online dangers, says a new study. Our guest blogger says it's time to shift Internet safety education from avoidance to literacy.

Now for the good news in the youth part of Ottawa-based MediaSmarts?s report??Talking to Youth and Parents about Life Online." (I previously highlighted the parents' section.) Well,?mostly?good news. It sounds as if ?Internet safety education? has made the youngest among the 11-to-17-year-olds that MediaSmarts talked with pretty paranoid: ?From (11- and 12-year-olds') perspective, the Internet is a very dangerous place. They told us that sharing any information put them at risk of being kidnapped, assaulted by a stranger, and stalked.? (This misinformation is called education?)

And how sad, because ? even though ?they demonstrated strong resilience when it came to dealing with both offensive content and unwanted conversations with strangers ? clicked out of offensive sites, (and) knew not to talk to strangers? ? they had been taught all this was necessary because ?people were not trustworthy,? they told MediaSmarts.

So here?s a mere sampler of the good news MediaSmarts turned up in a series of 12 in-depth conversations with 66 young people:

• General state of their safety: They showed ?strong resilience about dealing with ?creeps?? and ?almost universally limit online interactions? to people they know offline. ?Chat rooms were universally seen as dangerous.?
• Friendship expressed online (intelligently): Young people have ?a clearly defined set of rules about what friends post ? and do not post ? about friends. Personal attacks were generally forbidden and a sign that a friendship was at an end?. Pictures were highly regulated by all of our participants?. An unrealistic number of online ?friends? was seen as inauthentic and a sign of desperation [Note that a protective social norm is developing here.]?. ?Spam statuses? were an indicator that someone was seeking an inappropriate amount of attention and was therefore not a desirable friend."
• They see the need to disconnect, too: ?Although a few of our participants told us that losing access to the online world, even for a week, would be catastrophic, many of them talked about the need to retreat in order to re?establish a sense of privacy.? (So many adult "pundits" seem so proud of having thought of this ? books have been written about it, even.)
• Cyberbullying, resilience and good strategies: Youth find online meanness easier to deal with than the offline kind, MediaSmarts found. That?s because the visibility of online interaction ?leaves a digital trail ? [and] lets them challenge bullies publicly and hold them to account.? They ?demonstrated a strong resiliency when it came to cyberbullying? and ?clear strategies: first, ignore it and de?friend or block the person (typically a very successful strategy); if it continues, then confront the bully face?to?face because it is easier to call someone to account in person; and if that does not work or you are not comfortable talking to the person directly, call in your parents and they will help you resolve the conflict.?
• Big caveat about school intervention, though: ?Almost all ? were disdainful of school anti?bullying programs; they felt that, in general, teachers and principals did not understand the kinds of problems they might face and only made things worse when they intervened."
• Surveillance nation (more noteworthy than good news): Young people feel ?the Internet is now a fully monitored space where parents, teachers and corporations keep them under constant surveillance,? so they see ?parental monitoring? as ?the price of admission? for being able to use connected devices. But, unsurprisingly, they?re forgiving too: ?In spite of their frustration with parental monitoring, almost all our participants felt their parents were acting out of good intentions,? MediaSmarts found.
• About parental monitoring: ?The teenagers who did share the details of their lives with their parents were the ones who were not routinely monitored. Trust in this case was mutual,? indicating that ?monitoring alone may work?against?open family dialogue.?
